Extremes!

Over the last few days, we’ve been seeing the horrific images of the Amazon Jungle on fire.. literally, “The Lungs of the Earth” dying! But why is there so little being done about it, and why aren’t people jumping to help and donate to the help, like they did when Notre Dame went up in flames?! Don’t get me wrong, it’s heart warming to know that this beautiful building will be restored (albeit in 20 years), but it’s a building… not our life force!

Sometimes I feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders, and not because of personal issues, but the actual worry of all that is wrong in the world, and the feeling of absolute helplessness! It grinds on me daily, when I listen to the news, scroll through Facebook, and all I hear and see, is doom and gloom, fuelled mostly by greed, and pure evil. Men, women and children starving to death in Yemen, animal cruelty, from trophy hunting to cooking dogs alive, and much more, countries at war, deforestation, terrorism, human trafficking and paedophilia, the list is endless I feel! BUT WHAT CAN I DO?!!!

I do have to take the ignorance is bliss approach every now and then, because I get so overwhelmed, and literally switch off to everything, until I can take more in. Which isn’t a great approach, but it’s self preservation I suppose. Then I’ll go on my rampage of signing thirty petitions a day, for different causes, local to worldwide – at least it feels like I’m doing something minuscule!

How has it come to this though, and why? Everything feels so extreme nowadays, from the bad, even to the good! Make up, dieting, hobbies, everything now is extreme! Is our hunger and impatience for anything and everything so extreme, that we need it now, bigger, better, but more importantly, without any thought on how or where what we want comes from, and at what cost or impact to people and our world!

As I write this, I’m eating bananas on toast, the banana is from Africa. It’s a fair trade, organic banana, so at least I feel, the farmer who grew the bloody thing isn’t being totally ripped off! Whatever I buy now, I try to make a conscious decision when choosing. I’m more aware of what products use palm oil, are fair trade, and I do try to buy Irish not only to support Irish produce and business, but to cut down on my carbon foot print. I’m eating less meat, until I eventually go veggie. We recycle as a family, so my kids know what goes in what bin! These are the little things that I can do, and teach my kids to do. They’re certainly not going to solve the worlds problems, but if we all do something small, surely it’ll add up!

Anyway, this blog has been most serious, but one I had to get off my chest! I’ll end this with a joke, and it’s gonna be a bad one, but nevertheless in an effort to bring balance to such seriousness!

Ready?....

Today at the bank, an old lady asked me to check her

balance.. so I pushed her over!! (holds belly laughing).. ok, ok one more…

Why did the nurse need a red pen at work? In case she needed to draw blood!! (oh God, rolling on the floor now).. you'll also see some of my friends laughing at my jokes in the pic there.....

Soz not soz!

Peace out!
